Aquatic Leadership & Certification Programs

Harbour Pool offers a wide range of Lifesaving Society Aquatic Certification and Leadership Programs, including: -Junior Lifeguard Club -Bronze Medal Awards -National Lifeguard -Swim and Lifesaving Instructor -Provincially-Recognized First Aid Courses Registration for Aquatic Certification Programs must occur in person at a City of Fort Saskatchewan facility or over the phone at 780-992-6162.

Lifesaving Society Junior Lifeguard Club

Prerequisites: 8 years, ability to swim 25m, ability to tread water for 2 minutes, comfort in deep water. Junior Lifeguard Club, combining each of the Canadian Swim Patrol programs together in a club-based setting, provides enriched training for those who are ready to go beyond learn-to-swim. This program continues to develop participants’ swim strokes and provide the skill foundation that prepares them for success in the Society’s Bronze Medal awards.

Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard

Prerequisites: 16 years, Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross award (need not be current), current Standard First Aid CPR-C & AED award (Aquatic Emergency Care recommended but not required). National Lifeguard is Canada’s standard for professional lifeguarding - the course builds on the fundamental skills, knowledge, fitness, judgment, and values taught in prerequisite courses. The course develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard.

Swim and Lifesaving Instructor

Prerequisite(s): minimum 16 years old and Bronze Cross or higher (need not be current).
